The Lung Warrior Incorporated was established post a personal experience with the organisations's President, Madison Dobels. In 2019, Madison gave birth to her second son TeKoa Timu at 26 weeks. TeKoa has since spent his majority of his life admitted in hospital with lung related conditions and or complications, where Madison noticed a gap in the system of support.

TeKoa remains on home oxygen and is tube fed still, four years on and battles daily just to be able to breathe. TeKoa has an older brother than has since been diagnosed with PSTD that has stemmed from very traumatic unpreventable experiences that comes with TeKoa's lung conditions.

Madison had to be a mother of two boys, in two different places yet still trying to navigate life in between. It was during these times of uncertainty and fear that she realised that she needed to help other families going through similar journeys and try and to support them through times that she was and still is experiencing.

The Lung Warrior was named after TeKoa (Koa meaning Warrior in Hawaii), and the organisations board was established in 2021 consisting of eight committee members. The Lung Warrior was becoming an Incorporated Association in August 2021 and was registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not for Profit Commission (ACNC) in 2023.

The Lung Warrior Incorporated is a newly established organisation that is aiming to support sick children and their families suffering with lung conditions in Western Australia. We aim to provide support both during hospital admission but also within the community.
